Ozzy’s Wine Bar in Newport to close with 6 jobs lost

A Shropshire pub once owned by rock legend Ozzy Osbourne is to close with the loss of six jobs.



Ozzy’s Wine Bar in Newport will shut its doors for the final time on Saturday at the conclusion of the Newport Nocturne cycle races.

Licensee Paul Quinn said: “It’s quite sad. We’ve always had a good bunch of regulars here but it’s just the way the industry is going at the moment.”

The pub, a favourite amongst Newport’s large student population, was bought by Black Sabbath star Osbourne for then-wife Thelma in 1978.

The pair lived in nearby Gnosall for a short period. ( In the next Family Estate to mine )(( my late husbands family should i say ))

Ozzy occasionally drank at the bar but it was largely left to Thelma to run it while Ozzy toured the world. The rocker sold the business two years later.

( Occasionally ? bollocks he lived in the place while he was in the contry giggles Thelma and i would often drink Ozzys Crew under the table (( but it was an impossability to drink Ozzy out ))


Mr Quinn took over as the licensee in February after four years working behind the bar and said at the time that he was looking forward to building up the business and changing the décor.

I will ask my Son to scan some photos of me drinking there with Thel / Ozzy and some of his closest roadys
